St. EOM (1908 ? 1986)
Pasaquan
Eddie Owens Martin hustled on the streets of New York City (prostitution, gambling and an arrest for marijuana sales resulting in a short stint in prison) during the late 1920?s through the 1950?s before returning, in 1957, to his native rural Georgia. Educating himself in the museums of NYC during the day, he would ply his various trades at night. For 30 years he built a fantastic compound on four acres of land, inherited on his mother?s death. Built primarily of incised concrete and psychedelically painted, pagoda-like structures, gates and walls enhance this plot of land outside of Buena Vista. In April of 1986, St. EOM took his revolver and fired one shot into his head.
In his own words:
??this place is called Pasaquan, where the past and the present and the future and everything else come together.?
These photographs of St. Eom's Pasaquan were taken by the Artist John Drury. (more about the artist)
